A Guide to Using the Wiki
Here's a simple guide on how to use the wiki! You can find how to find certain pages, via navigation/search, and how to create a page about your nation or character.
I: Making an Account
First step! Creating an account. To start, on the bottom left hand of your screen, bottom right for mobile, it'll show a profile icon. Click the icon and it'll show if you're logged in or anonymous. To create an account, click create account. Throughout the whole process, it is fairly easy. Follow the prompt, create your user, and you're done!
- Can't find the link? Here's a direct link to the "create account" page!
Once you have created your account, you can see what having an account offers; this can be done by clicking the profile icon and the menu will appear.
II: Navigating the Wiki
For main navigation throughout the wiki, you have two easy ways to do this; the search bar and the navigation bar.
Need help finding contents in a page? With finding certain content in pages, using the contents section on the right hand side, showcasing the contents. Click on one of the headings and it'll bring you right to what you clicked. Try it out with this guide!
The Search Bar
Here, you can put in the search for a certain page or keyword. Whatever you put in, results will pop up and show the page or related pages containing the keyword.
- For computer users, the magnify glass icon at the top left of the screen, this will open the search.
- For mobile users, the magnify glass icon at the bottom left of the screen, this will open the search.
The Navigation Bar
However different for mobile and computer, there is the navigation on the left side of your screen! Here, you can find what we offer for easy navigation. These are for quicker links for pages, example being the main page.
- For mobile users, at the bottom of your screen, there are three lines with a dropdown arrow. When you click it, the navigation will open.
- For computer users, to the left side of the screen, by the magnify glass icon, there are three lines with a dropdown arrow. When you click it, it'll open the navigation center.
III: Creating Pages on the Wiki
You can create pages on the wiki! We’re allowing the community to be able to submit and publish pages, which can be about your nation and character lore.
Making your Page
Want to create your page? Super easy! Instead of going through a hassle, you can use the search bar, type in the name you want. No results? When nothing pops up, at the end of the search, click "create the page (name here) on the wiki", and your page is in progress!
When you first create this page, it will not instantly create the page. You still got to write on it first!
After clicking the button, the page will pop up and is ready to be edited. Without having to do any source coding, the wiki offers an easy, visual editing, system for you to write.
- When it comes to writing, we recommended using a computer for easy writing. If you prefer mobile, this still works! Page screen is limited, but the visual editing system will still be accessible.
Writing System
It's super easy to write your post! Using the visual editor, which you're still welcome to use source coding, there is a bar at the top of the screen with everything you will need.
- What is provided? There is an undo and redo button, paragraph formatting, text style, link, create a list, insert, and special characters. If you want to switch to source editing, click the pencil icon.
- Mediawiki also has a help button! If you can’t find what you’re looking for, need a user guide, clicking the “?” button will help!
Finished with your writing? Click the “save page” button and add your summary! For how approval works, look at the Final Steps section in this guide.
Using Templates
If you're here to write, we have some templates we ask that you use! With these, it will make it easier for organization and readability with your page. Following links will show you how to use these templates, as well as how you can insert them into your page. This process might be a little tough, but once you read these guides, it'll be a whole new world!
Before you go through the hassle of making a page and adding the template, especially when making a nations page, make sure to double check if it hasn't already been created.
Importing Images
Importing images is easy! Using the insert, it'll drop down a menu. Click on Images and Media. From there, you can upload the selected image you want to add. Follow the prompt and you'll be able to insert it to your page!

To add a caption to the image, change size, or image type, click the image you want to add and click edit! Caption will be in general and the rest is in advanced.
- For template images, please view the template guide on how to insert the image.
Changing Images Size
To change your images size, go into source editor, locate where your file is imported in the editor; should be labeled as [[File: ImageName.png]]. After the file type, put in | (size you want) px.
It should look like this when added. EXAMPLE: [[File: ImageName.png | 250 px]].
After that, you're done! Press preview, at the bottom of the source editor, to see how it looks with the size.
- You're welcome to change to whatever size you wish, but if you're unsure, the most common image sizes are: 250 px or 220 px. All depends on how big your image is!
IV: Final Steps
You've finally finished your page and saved it! Historians will do a once over, none of your writing will be rewritten. Only changes that will be made if there are grammar mistakes or page errors.
Anything created needs to currently be approved by historians, after some time any of the changes or edits don’t have to be approved.
- Approval may take some time, but historians do see your change and will soon review. If your change hasn’t been approved for a while, contact an historian and ask for it’s current status!
Want your page to be saved but not finished? Once you save a page, you can leave a note in the summary, letting the historians know if your page is either unfinished or in draft. You can do this multiple times, we just ask you don't do it as a way to spam. When you're done, let the team know in the summary, and it'll be reviewed.
For draft navigation, your page, while still in draft or not finished, may be approved. This is so you can see what your page looks like as a created page, as well as easy search up for the page!
- To note, even after your page has been approved, it can still be edited! If you notice something missing or want to add new information, you’re welcome to edit the page. Historians will review your changes.
- Page editing can be done by clicking the edit button on the page, labeled with a pencil icon. To save, click "save changes".
Visual Summary
Didn’t understand any of the writing or skipped ahead for something quick? Here’s a visual summary with a video.
- Do please note that some of this writing compared to the video may be different, either or, both information should help you get what you need or answer questions you may have.
At this time, there is currently no video! Sorry, the video will be added soon. Right now, if you need help one of the historians can help!
Need Help?
If you're still confused and need of help, contact the historians! As of now, we are working on a system, so to contact an historian you can ping someone on the team, whoever is available, in the Forgotten SMP Official Discord. We are here to help you anytime!
