A Guide to Using the Wiki
Here's a simple guide on how to use the wiki! You can find how to find certain pages, via navigation/search, and how to create a page about your nation or character.
Making an Account
First step! Creating an account. To start, on the top right hand of your screen, it shows that you're currently anonymous on the wiki. Click the name and it'll direct you to create your account! Throughout the whole process, it is fairly easy. Follow the prompt, create your user, and you're done!
- Can't find the link? Here's a direct link to the "create account" page!
Once you have created your account, you can see what having an account offers; this can be done by clicking your name and the menu will appear.
Navigating the Wiki
For main navigation throughout the wiki, you have two easy ways to do this; the search bar and the navigation bar.
Need help finding contents in a page? With finding certain content in pages, using the contents section that first appears at the beginning of the page, it'll open with all the main headings of the page! Click on one of the headings and it'll bring you right to what you clicked. Try it out with this guide!
The Search Bar
For both mobile and computer, there is the search bar at the top of the screen! Here, you can put in the search for a certain page or keyword. Whatever you put in, results will pop up and show the page or related pages containing the keyword.
The Navigation Bar
However different for mobile and computer, there is the navigation on the left side of your screen! Here, you can find what we offer for easy navigation. These are for quicker links for pages, example being the main page.
- For mobile users, at the top left of your screen, there are three lines with a dropdown arrow. When you click it, the navigation will open!
- For computer users, the navigation is already shown for you on the left side of your screen.
Creating Pages on the Wiki
You can create pages on the wiki! We’re allowing the community to be able to submit and publish pages, which can be about your nation and character lore.
Making your Post
Want to create your page? Super easy! Instead of going through a hassle, you can use the search bar, type in the name you want. No results? When nothing pops up, at the end of the search, click "create the page (name here) on the wiki", and your page is in progress!
When you first create this page, it will not instantly create the page. You still got to write on it first!
After clicking the button, the page will pop up and is ready to be edited. Without having to do any source coding, the wiki offers an easy, visual editing, system for you to write.
- When it comes to writing, we recommended using a computer for easy writing. If you prefer mobile, this still works! Page screen is limited, but the visual editing system will still be accessible.
Writing System
It's super easy to write your post! Using the visual editor, which you're still welcome to use source coding, there is a bar at the top of the screen with everything you will need.
- What is provided? There is an undo and redo button, paragraph formatting, text style, link, create a list, insert, and special characters. If you want to switch to source editing, click the pencil icon.
- Mediawiki also has a help button! If you can’t find what you’re looking for, need a user guide, clicking the “?” button will help!
Finished with your writing? Click the “save page” button and add your summary! For how approval works, look at the Getting your Page Approved section in this guide.
Using our Templates
If you're here to write, we have some templates we ask that you use! With these, it will make it easier for organization and readability with your page. Following links will show you how to use these templates, as well as how you can insert them into your page. This process might be a little tough, but once you read these guides, it'll be a whole new world!
Before you go through the hassle of making a page and adding the template, especially when making a nations page, make sure to double check if it hasn't already been created.
Getting your Page Approved
You've finally finished your page and saved it! Before your page has been approved, historians will do a once over. None of your writing will be rewritten, only if there are grammar mistakes or page errors.
Want your page to be saved but not finished? Once you save a page, you can leave a note in the summary, letting the historians know if your page is either unfinished or in draft. You can do this multiple times, we just ask you don't do it as a way to spam. When you're done, let the team know in the summary, and it'll be reviewed.
- To note, even after your page has been approved, it can still be edited! If you notice something missing or want to add new information, you’re welcome to edit the page. Historians will review your changes.
- Page editing can be done by clicking the edit button on the page. To save, click "save changes".
Thank you!
